What is Korean Cushion Foundation?
Cushion foundation is the liquid type foundation soaked in a sponge, housed in a compact, which you can apply with an accompanying puff. It was first developed in 2008 by Amorepacific (more specifically the brand ‘Iope’), a Korean beauty conglomerate to help people to re-apply sunscreen as well as to fix the makeup with no hassle while they are outside. Because of this purpose, most of the cushion foundations have high enough SPF – at least 20 in general and easy to find the ones with SPF 50 or higher.
What is the use of Cushion Foundation?

Korean Cushion Foundation Shades
The biggest cons of Korean cushion foundations would be the lack of shades. In general, 3~5 shades are available. In fact, it is not only about the Korean brands but the global powerhouse like Estee Lauder only provides 4 shades for its Double Wear Cushion BB in the US. I assume it is based on the lower demand compared to Korea since they do provide more shades (5~6) along with more variety of cushions in Korea. Type of Cushion Foundation
Although the cushion foundation started as a sponge type compact, now there is another type of cushion foundation available in the market – the pump type. Pump type is the product where the liquid foundation lies under a plate with several tiny holes so that you can adjust the amount by ‘pumping’ or pushing down the plate with a puff. The pump type launched with the claim that the sponge soaked with liquid won’t be much sanitary. However, sponge type is still the mainstream in the world of cushion foundation.
